Early life
Michael Ray Tyler was born the youngest of seven in Dallas, Texas, on May 15, 1965. His parents raised 7 children and formed a family band “The Family St. John Show Band” that played the Dallas and Shreveport club circuits from approximately 1973-1979. Michael’s father, John Cleveland Tyler, a guitarist, reared his children with an iron fist and modeled his family group after the celebrity band “The Jackson 5”. The mental and physical abuse was endless in the Tyler household and it was not until Michael’s high school music experience that he was able to fully enjoy a comforting and positive relationship with music. When Tyler was 4 years old, his father taught him to play trumpet out of a guitar book. Michael was also given the choice of a second instrument and he chose the drum set. Michael’s curiosity of the other instruments led him to also get familiar with the bass guitar, keyboards and percussion. His father also made him sing in the family band where he was also featured up front. The family band performed many hits of that decade including such artists as Al Green, Staple Singers, Neil Sedaka, Sister Sledge, Earth, Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, Average White Band, and Parliament, just to name a few.
Music career
After high school in 1983 and a scholarship at the University of Kansas where he later received a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1992, Tyler was introduced to the life of a musician on the road. He toured and performed with Wayne Newton in 1992-93. Since then, he has opened for Lionel Richie, Stevie Nicks, Jay Leno, and has also performed as backup performer for such artists as Lou Rawls, Kid Creole, Joan Rivers, Mary Wilson and currently makes his base in Las Vegas, NV where he performs at such events as Sho West, Andre Agassi Foundation Fundraisers, McDonald’s Corporation Events, Macintosh, IBM, Nortel, Microsoft webpage, Toyota, State Farm, Century 21, Morgan Stanley, Oreck, Tiger Woods Jams Events, Wendy’s and many more. Tyler received his Master’s in Jazz Composition from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1999.

I have always had this dream of getting my original music out into the world and then going around the world to perform it. I’ve always enjoyed writing music starting back when I was a sophomore in high school, then through college and now during my professional life. It is something that I am drawn to and definitely have a passion for. I hope that the talent that I have been blessed with will come in need in today’s world and music industry. I will let you know that I am a multi-dimensional musician. I have a vocal side and I have an instrumental side. I hope that after you have listened and reviewed my work, that you witness my discipline, my determination and my perseverance.
